DDJ 59. 不老之剃刀

第五十九章
[原文]
治人事天①,莫若啬②。夫唯啬,是谓早服③;早服谓之重积德④;重积德则无不克;无不克则莫知其极,莫知其极,可以有国;有国之母⑤,可以长久。是谓根深固柢,长生久视之道⑥。
[译文]
治理百姓和养护身心,没有比爱惜精神更为重要的了。爱惜精神,得以能够做到早作准备;早作准备,就是不断地积“德”;不断地积“德”,就没有什么不能攻克的;没有什么不能攻克,那就无法估量他的力量;具备了这种无法估量的力量,就可以担负治理国家的重任。有了治理国家的原则和道理,国家就可以长久维持。国运长久,就叫做根深祗固,符合长久维持之道。

老子拿起剃刀,开始理发。 一边教小孩学方程。 不变应万变,求最简最约最傻瓜。x+5=y+5 可以简化成 x=y;而不是反方向推演更加繁杂。

夫唯啬,可以积累。  唯简,可以计划。 古中国哲学艺术,如围棋,追求的是简化而又变化的模型策略科学。无不克则莫知其极。治人事天,莫若啬。 将军总统Eisenhower 说:I tell this story to illustrate the truth of the statement I heard long ago in the Army: Plans are worthless, but planning is everything. There is a very great distinction because when you are planning for an emergency you must start with this one thing: the very definition of "emergency" is that it is unexpected, therefore it is not going to happen the way you are planning.  华丽丽,高大上的,繁复杂,那往往是Wizard of Oz, 甚至蕴藏祸心。

Because the clause was drawn from the Articles of Confederation, there is very little discussion of it in the The Federalist, although James Madison asserted in No. 42 that its clarity was a great improvement over the version in the Articles. He listed the clause as one of several that "provide for the harmony and proper intercourse among the States."
The Supreme Court has invoked the clause to police state-court proceedings in three contexts: (1) determining when a state must take jurisdiction over claims that arise in other states; (2) limiting the application of local state law over another state's law in multistate disputes; and (3) recognizing and enforcing judgments rendered in sister-state courts.”
