五月花第一船Puritans (因看不惯英国国教的教皇做法，而离开英国，在荷兰留10多年；最终因为荷兰的机会少而且没有政治地位，而离开安全的荷兰走上3000英里的五月花)，中间历尽艰辛，付出沉重的代价，半数死于饥寒病。
但是最终这帮普通人，只有一个曾经来过新大陆，只有少少数有钱有很好的教育。最后生存下来的往往是一般人，bonded servants, merchants, barrel maker, etc.
这种群体迁徙，华人历史很常见。 最成功的一次是道教衣冠南渡，建立东晋。 成功的迁徙需要信仰，需要组织，需要handle emergency。 这是五月花的强项。
最近的两次都是被迫的，非常悲惨，
1）抗战期间退入西南，西南联大 教育应该远比五月花好。
2）华裔越南船民。 他们的教育应该不错。 可以跟五月花比一比。
失去道教以后，1000年来的华裔大迁徙，悲惨载入史册，付出沉重的代价，却只是为了眼前的悲剧。 海外华人的草根组织建设，没有靠谱的宗教信仰，没有长期的Mission Statement，没有目标。 我们的五月花在哪里？
